Steve Dennis continued his run of good form on sunday with another win and course record. In a rare sortie outside Sussex, Dennis took advantage of the offer of
a lift to Chelmsford to ride in the Unity CC open 25.
The course is all on ‘B’ roads to the north-east of the town and goes from Writtle to Dunmow and back via Leaden Roding. Off no 50 in a field of 46, Dennis
was the pre-race favorite and not wanting to let his lift down, “did his best”.
The leg out to the turn was mainly uphill but with a tailwind, and at half-distance, glancing at his watch, Dennis saw 27 mins. So after a rough calculation, he worked out he could be on for a 55 min ride. He
obviously kept up the same pace into the headwind, as at the finish he clocked 54:16. Good enough for 1st place and beating course record by
1min 24secs.
